Increase Your Focus Using These Five Mindfulness Practice Techniques

21 November 2023

Want to become more focused and mindful in your life but aren’t quite sure where to start? There are several different ways to practice mindfulness that in turn will allow for your focus to increase as well. Start by trying one or two of the following techniques and see which of these helps you the most. Read on to find out more on what mindfulness techniques you can start straight away that will aid your focus as well in return.

1. Meditate

The best way to increase your level of focus is to start by increasing the level of mindfulness in your life by setting aside time every day to meditate. Meditation creates a space for you to spend quality time with yourself! It allows you to evaluate both your emotions as well as your physical feelings. It can also help relieve stress and induce a calmer demeanor which in turn will certainly help your focus too. If you want to become more mindful, you really must spend time meditating each day.

2. Spend Time Outside

Spending time outside in the fresh air can do wonders for your mentality. And the best part is, you don’t need any special training to implement this in your life. Start by going for a walk in a park near your house and paying attention to all the scenery around you. Do some breath work too as you walk. A simple breath work method while walking is to take in a deep breath and hold it for 1 to 2 seconds longer than you normally do and then release it slowly. Repeat this up to 10 times in a row as you walk. Then resume regular breathing. Try this every so often as you walk. Not only is spending time outside great for your mind, but it also lets the body unwind and reset. This is important when it comes to focus, as this will help to get rid of the brain fog too if you are working on something important.

3. Start Your Day with A Purpose

Another way to practice mindfulness is by starting all of your days with a clear purpose. This can be done by waking up early and having a morning routine that lets you start the day relaxed and prepared. This morning routine can be meditating when you first wake up, completing breathing exercises, or even going for a nature walk before work. Having a morning routine is important as this sets you up for a day that is more productive and in turn brings with it a better level of focus and output. Remember to do a midday reset too for 5 to 10 minutes by going for a short walk, doing a short meditation, or breath work. This gives you an instant reset that will carry you through the afternoon and allow you to complete your day on a happier note.

4. Watch What You Eat

Watching what you eat doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go on a diet. In this day and age, meals have become quick periods where you eat as fast as possible. Slow down, take each bite with purpose, notice all of the flavors you are consuming. And then pay attention after you finish eating to see how different foods affect your mood and health. You may be surprised by what you discover about your favorite foods. As an example, often fatty foods with high carbs can make one feel sleepy or lethargic versus a salad with protein in it such as chicken or legumes that will aid one with better brain function.

5. Take Frequent Evaluation Pauses

Sometimes your life can be so hectic that you don’t spend any time on yourself. No matter what your schedule is like, now is the time to work in frequent pauses. These pauses don’t have to be long, just a few minutes to breathe deeply and evaluate how you feel and what you are thinking every 50 minutes or so when working. Take a moment to stand up and move for about 2-3 minutes if possible. It can be as simple as running a paper errand in the office as an example. You will find these mindful pauses will do wonders for your stress relief and give you a moment to re-focus and recalibrate as well by simply taking that micro break often during your day.

Overall, leading a more mindful life isn’t that difficult. Simply start by trying one or two of the mindful techniques on this list above, and you’ll be feeling more mindful and certainly with better levels of focus in no time at all!
