Overcome Self-Rejection and Claim Back Your Purpose

07 February 2023

Totally rejecting yourself is one of the cruellest ways you can invalidate yourself. Having difficult emotions that you feel like you can’t process, or some other personal challenge that makes it hard for you to accept yourself, you totally stop the self-validation process. Validating yourself means accepting what you’re thinking, feeling, and experiencing.

When you totally reject yourself, you are slamming the breaks on the entire self-validation process. You can’t even begin to analyse and accept parts of who you are, you can’t work through any of your problems, process any difficult emotions, or even celebrate the parts of yourself that are unique and positive and bring purpose to your life.

Begin by Working Out Your Life’s Purpose

Make a list of ten different things you like about yourself, no matter how big or small they might be. This may be a huge challenge for someone who rejects themselves entirely, but if you brainstorm long enough, you can create a list of ten things you like about yourself, and this will begin to show you what your purpose in this life may be. Nothing is too big or too small to add into the list. Once you have your ten things, keep the list somewhere visible. Revisit it often, especially when you’re struggling to like or accept yourself or where your purpose is challenged. As you think of new things you like about yourself, add them on to your list.

Challenge the Negative Thoughts That Come to Mind

Challenge any incorrect statements you hear in your mind about yourself or your purpose. Say the thought out loud, and then challenge yourself to find a flaw in the “logic” behind this negative thought about you and your life’s purpose. Often, when people reject who they are or their thoughts on their direction in life, these negative thoughts are rooted in anxiety, insecurity, or some other false exaggeration that simply isn’t true. Identify the flaw in your thoughts and then replace that thought that is incorrect with something more positive and truthful that is realistic and in line with your purpose in life.

We are Naturally Hardwired Beings

Humans are hard-wired to find purpose in what they’re doing. We look for fulfillment in our lives. And finding your life purpose can help you define and achieve your life goals. In this life you can have more than one pathway in which you feel your life’s calling is coming from.

Discovering and aligning with your calling means you identify and build on your talents. What is your passion? What do you love doing? Chances are you’re already good at it. Why not focus on your natural gifts and turn them into your greatest strengths?

You Will Create Opportunities

By working out your life purpose, you open yourself to more opportunities than you could have imagined. When you begin living intentionally, you'll find that your whole mindset changes. You see the right direction to take, and you allow synchronicity to work its magic.

If you feel doubtful about this, think back to times in your life where things just seemed to ‘fall into place’ or you were in the right place at the right time. Don’t fall back onto old thoughts or thought patterns of negativity about yourself and your life purpose. Practice saying yes to the things that feel good and see where that energy takes you.

The World is Waiting for What You Can Offer It

You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘be the change you want to see in the world.’ That starts with deciding to find and align with your life’s purpose. Choose to do what matters to you, what makes you feel good, and you will change things for the better.

In living a life aligned with your values and purpose, you can’t help but have a positive impact on the world whether it’s locally or worldwide. Show to others how living your purpose can be an inspiration and can get other people moving too. By simply doing this, you will have started a chain of positive impacts that go on beyond your own self. Let purpose drive you to your next level of success and happiness. Don’t let those false thoughts in the back of your mind be the stopper for you in this life. Be the person you ought to be.
