I suspect you want to be your best possible you, right? How will you know who that person is and what they’re capable of unless you know your life purpose? Discovering and aligning with your calling means you need to identify and build on your talents. So, what is your passion? What do you love doing? Chances are you are already good at it. By focusing on your natural gifts, you can turn them into your greatest strengths.
By working out your life purpose, you open yourself to more opportunities than you could have imagined. When you begin living intentionally, you will find that your whole mindset changes. You see the right direction to take, and you allow synchronicity to work its magic.
If you feel doubtful about this, think back to a time in your life where things just seemed to ‘fall into place’ or you were in the right place at the right time.
To help show you how to develop your life’s purpose I want to give to you 12 steps that a young lady by the name of Glo Atanmo uses. Glo gave myself and some fellow budding business colleagues some insight on how to contemplate and live a more purposeful life by following her own 12 step formula below called the ’12 H Framework’. Here it is as follows.
1. Hunger. What is the last thing you really craved in life? For Glo, a while back, this was stability. She was traveling the world, living out of a suitcase, but eventually she came to find herself hungry for stability. Whatever this question leads you to, this will be critical in helping to guide your next steps! Journal on this question!
2. Heart. What do you currently do that’s a reflection of your heart (or the heart that you desire to have)? Perhaps, like Glo, you want to educate and help other people. Perhaps it’s something else. Do people have to guess where you stand? Make sure they can see where your heart is through what you do!
3. Habits. What would you do differently if the world required you to be at your best? Many of us don’t want to hold massive leadership positions, but if you were forced to, what would you then have to do? Who would you have to become? These are great questions to ask yourself when thinking about what is needed to get to the next level.
4. Hustle. What have people asked of you that they would pay for, or what do you do that could turn into a hustle? Purpose does not need to be about money, but sometimes it can signal you in the direction you need to go.
5. Hope. Where are you naturally more optimistic where others aren’t? If you are lacking hope right now, it may be helpful to filter what shows up in your social media feeds and what you watch on Netflix. When you guard your mind from the things that harm it, it will allow you to be more hopeful and optimistic with how you perceive the world.
6. Humor. What currently brings levity to your life? Your purpose can be found there! You may have other layers of your identity that need to come out, and by bringing them to the surface you can learn more about yourself and how to take yourself less seriously.
7. Hurt. Where has grief visited you and what did you learn? Don’t take purpose lightly. Experience gives you perspective, so learn from your humility!
8. Healing. Where have you found answers where others haven’t? You have so many different layers to your personality. Go outside of your comfort zone and labels so you understand yourself deeper and how you can grow past what you know now.
9. Horizon. What do you see for your future, and what did you do as a child that you no longer do as an adult? There is something about adulthood that makes us lose our playfulness and innocence. Is there something you want to revisit?
10. Harmony. Where do you feel most balanced? The areas in life that make you feel in harmony can lead you to your purpose.
11. Happiness. Where does joy find you and exist in you? For Glo, joy exists at the intersection of possibility and creativity. Think about what it is for you. There is so much out there that you can be doing with your passions and your purpose.
12. Hero. Why do you deserve to be the main character of your story? Why are you deserving of the life of your dreams? You do not have to worry about the “how” because you’ve already been chosen as the “who”. There is something in your life you were meant for! What is it?
By using these 12 steps you can learn to choose to do what matters to you, what makes you feel good, and you can change things for the better. In living a life aligned with your values and purpose, you can’t help but have a positive impact on the world whether it’s in your family, neighbourhood or your city. And in living your purpose you will be an inspiration to others, you will have started a chain of positive impacts not just in your immediate zone, but also to others outside your immediate zone of impact.
